Veterans Day Tribute

On Veterans Day Karen and I drove down Route 16 in Holliston, MA to see the flags hung in memory of the Servicemen all over the world who have died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan since Memorial Day. For 7 1/2 miles all you can see is hundreds of flags snapping in the breeze. Each telephone pole has the name of the Serviceman who died, his rank, age and country's flag. This tribute included 17 flags from around the globe: the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Hungary, Spain, Australia, Estonia, Canada, Germany, Georgia, Romania, the U.K., Italy, Poland, France, Sweden and Denmark. The posters and flags are hung by Bobby Blair and his volunteers who do this on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Since the tribute began in 2003, Blair has lettered 6,911 double-sided posters with 13,822 names. It is such an emotional and heart-wrenching sight. The ages of most of these men and women are so young and they have made the ultimate sacrifice.

As Thanksgiving Day approaches we think of all those who are serving their country far away from their families. We thank you and salute all of you Heroes for your service.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Fryeburg Fair 2010

Hi Everyone, I just returned from a trip to Maine over the Columbus Day weekend with my son, Kevin, his wife, Michelle, and their three girls. We all went to the Fryeburg Fair and had a wonderful time. People come from all over New England to exhibit and attend this fair. It runs for ten days. If you are ever in the area try to take it in!! I have attached snapshots of some of the events but it is impossible to see everything in one day. The pictures were taken by my granddaughter Alison.

Emily, Alison and me watching the sulky horse race and freezing. (It was very windy and cold!)

Emily, pretending that this is her restaurant.

Alison found a horse with her name. "Ali, Miss Congeniality".

Julia with her Dad, Kevin.

The highlight for us was the draft horse pulling contest.

We had a wonderful time at the Fair but it was time to move on to Antiquing! Michelle took us to her favorite antiques barn and I have some wonderful "finds" coming up for you on our website and eBay listings!

Kevin showing off his log cabin house that he built. It took many weekends but his hard work paid off!

It was a wonderful weekend full of fun, horses, laughs and antiques!

Welcome to our Blog!

Karen and I here at the Bean House have enjoyed reading all the Primitive blogs, so we decided to join in! We had a great time, in spite of the hot weather, at The Walker Homestead Primitives and Antiques show last weekend and met so many people that we know online but had never met in person. We stopped at the Primitive Place magazine booth and met all the girls. It was especially nice to finally meet Margo Gracia, Circa 1892 Homestead Primitives, our friend from eBay. We have just opened an antique and primitive booth at Bernat Mill Antiques in Whitinsville, MA and are posting some photos below. Please let us know what you think!
